Evan Timmons English 9 Honors O’Leary Romeo ad Juliet Essay Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a play about the love between two young kids whose families keep them apart because they can't overlook the feud between them. In the play Lord Capulet, the head of one of the families, has tried to force Juliet, Lord Capulet's Daughter, to marry Paris, Juliet's fiance. In a moment of desperation and love, she decides to Marry Romeo without telling her father. Lord Capulet would have not allowed the marriage not because he wants her to marry Paris but because he is overwhelmed with hatred for Montagues which Romeo is. Juliet is in bed threatening to kill herself after Romeo got banished“And with this knife I’ll help it presently… I long to die if what thou speak’st speak not of remedy.” 4:1:55 Juliet would rather kill herself than marry Paris because she is being forced by Lord Capulet to marry him. Juliet is already in love and married to Romeo, she would have to tell her father about the marriage and he would make them divorce because he cares more about the feud between Capulets and Montagues than he does his daughter. Lord Capulet's hatred for the Montagues puts Juliet in a position of choosing to divorce Romeo, and marry Paris or to kill herself. Forcing this overwhelming choice on Juliet is the reason for the conflict between him and Juliet. Lord Capulet is walking around and hears a fight involving the Montagues. Lord Capulet yells “My sword, I say! Old Montague is come. And flourishes his blade in spite of me.” Lord Capulet calling for his sword because he heard a Montague is coming demonstrates his hatred towards Montagues. This hatred is the reason she can't tell anyone about her marriage, her father has already threatened banishment for not marrying the one he chose if he found out she married his nemesis there is no telling what he could have done to Juliet. Lord Capulet’s hatred for the Montagues is one of the many reasons caused by him that lead to the death of Juliet and is the reason for the conflict between Juliet and her
