According to Dictionary.com a Disaster is “A calamitous event, especially one occurring suddenly and causing great loss of life, damage, or hardship (Dictionary.com). The BP oil spill is very complicated and requires a lot of research to fully understand what actually happened. Or a person could have planted a strategically placed bomb in the oil rig, but that is highly unlikely, because all oil rig employees have had there backgrounds checked of any felonies or arrest warrants. So if an employee applied for a job with a questionable background they would not have hired him/her in the first place. They also check physiological background because if you were to plant a bomb on an oil rig you are not only putting your co-workers in danger, but also your own life could be in serious danger.

One of the largest companies who performs this task is Halliburton in Texas. This company is the company that applied the cement to the deepwater horizon oil well. This company is also one of the most blamed for the BP oil spill in 2010 (Jones 13). And also many people believe that the cement was a main cause of the explosion since they used the nitrogen to help it cure faster (Pallardy 1). The explosion itself happened on April 20, 2010, and it killed 11 people and injured 126 (Jones 21). It was a great day of morning for America. Many people changed there views toward BP. The company soon had many enemies and had to deal with every single compensation claim in the surrounding areas of the gulf. They spent over 23 billion in claims and to repair the damage done to the wildlife in the Gulf.
During the explosion of the Deepwater horizon there was total chaos on land and out at sea. Other rigs where worried that if it broke loose of the well than it would float around dragging the well pipe. If the well pipe were to hit another well on the ground than it could cause another incident like the deepwater spill. The deepwater burned for 87 days and the oil burned longer because it was all on the surface. 3.4 million barrels of oil were dumped into the gulf during the period while it was burning (“Ocean Portal” 1).
