In the book Professor McGonagall says, “"But you're different. Everyone knows you're the only one You-Know- oh, all right, Voldemort, was frightened of." Before Voldemort's fall of power, nearly nobody stood in his way. The terror and fear he created caused people to not even say his name. Nobody scared Voldemort except Dumbledore and his power. After Voldemort lost his power, he took a long time to start regaining the power back which comes apparent in the end of the book. Before Voldemort attempted to kill Harry, his power outmatched everyone's. Voldemort and his army killed everyone and nobody beat them. Even Harry's parents stood no chance against him.
