The Renaissance era was the end of the Middle Ages and was the beginning of the contemporary period. It was a time where cultural movements flourished and the intellectual basis—humanism—arose. Humanism was a movement that believed that the human mind had limitless potential. It gave humans more freedom rather than following dogmas and superstitions. It was the start of the more scientific and logical age, based on evidence rather than beliefs and religion.

What exactly was the Renaissance? Well I’m glad you asked, the Renaissance was technically a ‘’rebirth’’ or ‘’revival’’ of art and literature, as some people would describe it as, and it had started in Europe around the year of 1400 and had lasted until about the 1700s. The Renaissance was a time of intellectual excitement, when art and literature blossomed and groundbreaking scientific advances were being made. During this period of time large parts of scientific and cultural advances were beginning to develop, and people were beginning to see themselves in a new way. The Renaissance changed man’s view of man in at least four areas: Art, Astronomy, Literature, and last but not least Human Anatomy.
The Renaissance is well known as an Italian phenomenon and while the Renaissance may have started in Italy, it inspired further Renaissances to occur all over Europe, including the Northern Renaissance. Beginning in the 14th century, new ideas and concepts were being formed during the Italian Renaissance such as humanism, new perspectives of the Catholic Church, different styles of art, etc.. All these new ideas spread and soon enough in the late 15th century, Northern Europe had a Renaissance of its own, obviously inspired by the Italian Renaissance, but with their own twist to the idea of a Renaissance that was unique to them. Humanism, reform in the Catholic Church, change in literature, and new styles of art can show that there had undeniably been a “rebirth” (Renaissance: rebirth) in Northern Europe and that it indeed had a Renaissance of its own. The focus on humanism was an effect of the Renaissance that occurred in Northern Europe.
The Renaissance reached to an end in the late sixteenth mid seventeenth century. The churches loss a lot of power and grasp of feeling of independence, human expression and investigation led to envy, treason, murder, violence and theft. But than again the Renaissance were the ones that painted the way to a lot of achievements and inventions in a lot of different areas of culture, society, science, religion and modern day life. A lot more advances were proficient during this era that kept on being increased in value, considered and developed in modern day. The Renaissance had a huge influenced on the establishment America was based on and keeps on effecting how American culture and society exist today.

In the twelfth century the rebirth of Greco- Roman culture was going on in northern and southern Italy. People were breaking away from the Catholic Church and starting to think for themselves and discovering ideas for themselves. During this time a lot of artists were introduced such as Da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo. Along with these artists came Christine de Pizan who was a writer during the renaissance. The early renaissance in the twelfth century eventually led to the humanist movement in the fourteenth century.
Throughout the years, numerous talented artists of the modern period have left an indelible mark upon life through their achievements in: art, music, poetry and writing. The modern period was known for its ravishing fashion, a tremendous amount of new cultures, and in music and ethnicity. During this period, famous authors such as W.B. Yeats, Seamus Heaney, and Dylan Thomas made an immense impact and maturation of literature. There have been several events that have taken place in the forming of the modern period. The Harlem Renaissance showed the pain and agony the African Americas faced through the years of the 1900s.

The home of the Renaissance was Italy, with its situation of noticeable quality on the Mediterranean Ocean. Italy was the business capital amongst Europe and Eurasia, amid this day and age, from fourteenth and sixteenth hundreds of years. With this economic stability, it can also be inferred that there was time to pursue the arts and other hobbies as the necessities were readily available. The Renaissance followed the Middle Ages, a period during which the Pope and Church held absolute and unquestionable superiority, and resistance and denial guaranteed punishment, to the extent of death in severe circumstances.
The renaissance was a time of many different improvements and changes to the era previous to it, the medieval ages, the renaissance re-introduced many different Roman and Greek traditional aspects, so much so that renaissance literally translates into “rebirth” in French. Other changes include social such as the rise of humanism and humanist beliefs, secularism, individualism, big changes in mathematical studies, sciences and all types of learning in general, the printing press invention, as well as religious changes, and the arts were also affected and changed with techniques such as chiaro-scuro, perspective, sfumato, and further more to be explained.
