There is no doubt that WW2 was the most destructive and devastating war the world has known. It was the first international military battle, and resulted in an approximated 60 million deaths worldwide. It was a global fight, between the Axis (consisting of Germany, Italy and Japan) and the Allied Powers (Britain, United States, Soviet Union, France and other countries). Like with WW1, we cannot be certain to one lone reason as to why this war started, but we have come to numerous, understandable reasons. Although many people believe that its trigger was Germany invading Poland, there are many other reasons as to why it truly did outbreak into a global, chaotic conflict. It was largely controlled by three men; the French prime minister Georges Clemenceau, the American president Woodrow Wilson, and the British prime minister David Lloyd George. Each men had their own opinions on what they wanted to happen. Clemenceau wanted revenge, he wanted to make sure that Germany paid for what they had destroyed and that they could never start another war again. Woodrow Wilson wanted a fourteen point treaty based on a plan that he thought would lead Europe back to peace. Lloyd George personally agreed with Wilson but he knew that the public agreed with Clemenceau. This is where they tried to come up with a compromise. As the Germans were anticipating a treaty based on Wilson's fourteen points they were very unhappy with the Treaty of Versailles but, they had no choice but to sign it. It's main points were the War Guilt Clause, Reparations, Disarmament and Territorial Clauses. This mean that Germany had to accept the blame for starting World War 1, pay back 6,600 million pounds as a result of the damage from the war, only allowed a small army and six naval ships.
