And when their students are at their college all that they wanna do, is make sure that they are not making their College a laughing stock. Another reason is that they wanna make and keep their campus safe and secure. All that College admissions are trying to do is make there College campus as safe as possible, no need to get upset when they ask about your postings. “Colleges and universities use Facebook apps and other social media tools to increase student retention.”(ProCon.org).One of the main reasons why Colleges do that is to get the right people to their College, and not people such as drug dealers or people that are looking for trouble.Overall it is better when Colleges look at your social media because that means that they care about the people that want to attend their College.The amount that Colleges use social media to know what kind of person is going to or already is attending their College is a great deal.People would think that when Colleges look at a students social media, that they are either nosy or being a stocker.But in fact, they are just getting to know the person behind the scenes.“More than half (53 percent) of colleges monitor social media for “buzz” about their institution.” (Nacacnet.org). They monitor their campus to see what their students are up to and to make sure that their students are not making a full of the College administration.“Eighty-eight percent of admission offices believed social media were either “somewhat” or “very” important”. These offenses included violent symbols or expressions, evidence of prejudice, partying and drug or alcohol use, negative commentary about school, some degree of nudity and overuse of profanity.” (EBSCO). This is exactly why Colleges should be concerned about their students. "The likelihood of an admissions officer to review a student's social profiles increases when the applicant has a troublesome disciplinary record or when the applicant is seeking a scholarship, among other factors," (EBSCO). That states that Colleges are also concerned about the ones that enter their college, they don’t just wanna accept everyone. They have to be safe when allowing students into their College.Lastly, students just need to be careful about what they do, because it will always be on the internet and Colleges will always be concerned. Colleges should be allowed to look at their future and present students social media. And if they didn’t, then they would not know what kind of person was entering their college.What is so wrong with College looking at students social network.
