GPA’s a better representation on a student’s performance in school. A student’s high school grade point average is the reflection of a student’s academic performance through their four years (Sheffer, 2014). When colleges look at someone’s ACT or SAT score they only see how well the student is in a limited time frame. Many colleges and Universities do take GPA into consideration, but ACT and SAT scores seem to be more important. Colleges and Universities should focus more on a student’s grade point average for a better representation of the student’s
Submitted by Modo Labs Team, they’ve conducted statistical research amongst a general population of students which reveals some shocking data. According to a 2015 study, just over 90% of college students use and engage in multiple social media platforms every day, compared to the mere 12% who were using social media back in 2005. It’s commonly noted that students flock to social media to kill free time, keep up with current events, and connect with those whom they don’t see on a regular basis. In addition, the Modo Labs Team discovered three key factors that drive students into social media platforms: Ease of Use, Privacy, and Visuals. Privacy is especially important, which is why many students use Facebook and Instagram thanks to their wide array of privacy settings (Modo Labs,
AFFIRMATIVE ACTION IS A NECESSARY TOOL THAT IS NEEDED IN THE COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS Catie Biby PLS: 135 U.S. Government March 15, 2023 AFFIRMATIVE ACTION IS A NECESSARY TOOL THAT IS NEEDED IN THE COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS Affirmative action has lately seen a surge in popularity for unsatisfactory reasons, with this reason being its use in the college admissions process. Affirmative action has not only just been used in the college admissions process, and it hasn't been a recent idea. This type of action has been used for decades in several institutions, mostly in places of higher education and employment, with its first use being in employment.
The American College Testing Program Assessment (known to most simply as the ACT) is a standardized test that is used by colleges to determine if one meets the required standards of that school, which then leads to the individual's acceptance or denial. The ACT not only determines your future for college choices, but it will also dictate how much money you will receive from the university in potential scholarships. The scores range from 1-36, with potentially scoring one point higher, could mean thousands of dollars toward scholarships. What most people do not realize is how biased, inaccurate and unfair the ACT actually is ("The ACT: Biased, Inaccurate, and Misused," 2007).
This is a standardized test that is taken in one day, over the course of a few hours, and colleges want it to determine our future. I believe if you do well in school then that should be all anyone needs to get into college. High school should be your readiness for college not a test. A person that makes a 4.3 GPA should have the same chance as someone who has a 28 on their ACT. If someone can take college classes in high school with only a composite score of a 20 on the ACT and do well in those college classes, then a college should not need a composite score of 23 to get into the actual college.
The ACT cannot measure who a person is and the abilities that individual is capable of doing. “Achievement is more than test scores but also includes class participation, students' course-taking patterns, and teachers' professional development patterns. The standardized tests we all know so well don't even come close to assessing all the outcomes that students and teachers attain” (Harris). Colleges should come up with a better way to analyze a student. They could always look more at the high school GPA, take more letters of recommendation, and even take personal letter.
Social networking also is where some of the aspects of your daily lives can be shown. For example, someone could probably tell what a person's job is from your social networking, and social networking shows people's interests which could hint at what kind of job someone would like to have in the future. This could also give someone information on whether or not you might be a decent recruit for a job. Employers and admission officers should be able to use social network in the hiring and recruiting process. Employers and admission officers should be able to examine social networking because it reveals an applicant's character, public information on social networking is the applicant’s responsibility, and college admissioners and employer’s using public information to gather information on an applicant is legal.

I’ve been researching this topic for about a week learning about what not to do to keep your future full of options. Employers and College Boards should be allowed to use social networking when it comes to the final decision in employing or enrolling, it can also be harmful from predators and overuse can be addictive. Employers and college boards should be able to use social media before the final decision in employing or
I am not lukewarm; there is no topic I do not feel strongly about whether I am informed or uninformed. An Achilles heel? Perhaps, but it also serves me as strength did Hercules. It is a personal guarantee that the other applicants fall short of such passion. My vehemence makes itself known daily in terms values, dedication, and endurance.
This keeps the tests biased against these students, which seriously hurts their chances of going to esteemed universities. The majority of people do not realize that the tests are discriminating against various groups of people and if people learn the tests might be changed for the
