Have you ever read Cinderella? It’s a beautiful story in which a prince falls in love with the underdog. However, behind all of the romance and glass slippers, there is a valuable life lesson; remain kind when surrounded by bad behavior, and you will be rewarded. Stories like these, such as red riding hood, Rapunzel, and the 3 little pigs etc. made it so that children could learn simple values while being engulfed with the beauty and glamour of the fairytale. Throughout the stories, human nature was camouflaged in characters so subtly that the children were never aware of the capabilities of mankind.

For example, how the realtor tells Tiana that she should stay where she is and diminish her as a competitive entrepreneur. As supporting evidence the quote served to prove that Tiana was not capable of running her own business because she is a woman. Disney is a multibillion-dollar company who has released dozens of box office hits. Many people attribute this to Disney’s renown but two authors interpret Disney’s success as a matter of psychology. Bruno Bettelheim author of “‘Cinderella’: A Story of Sibling Rivalry and Oedipal Conflicts” and Maria Konnikova author of “How ‘Frozen’ Took Over the World” describe and explain Disney’s success as a deep relation to the psyche of children. While both authors address Disney’s success in the movie industry as a matter of psychology, Bettelheim explains through a Freudian lens using core Freudian psychological concepts such as Oedipus complex while Konnikova describes Disney’s success using statistical evidence and psychological studies pertaining directly to Frozen and its viewers.
Walt Disney is the creator of Disneyland, he is one of the most popular men in the entertainment industry, thanks to his creation Disney, he had left a really huge legacy on the world, this man made an impact on the young generations and created a magical world for the kids around the world. His company was so famous that most of the kids in the world has at least watched one Disney movies in their life. Even though Disney is a very popular company, their movies are very polemical. There is a huge group of people that think that Disney Movies are bad for children integrity because it creates a lot of expectancy on a child’s life.
Evidently, Disney Princess films create a negative impact on young American girls, but there are some people who will argue and believe that they do not. Instead, they think that these films only teaches young American girls to become respectful characters. Yes, it is possible that Disney Princesses can be used as examples for young girls to learn that a person with good moral is respectful. For instance, in Tangled, Rapunzel did not argue back when she was getting yelled at by her mother for wanting to go outside (Tangled, 2010). This instructs young girls that they must respect their elders, and not argue back because that is disrespectful.
Trendsetter’s Success There are many trend setters in the United States, but one of them hold a close place in our heart. He’s name is Walt Disney. We all know his name isn’t actually Walt Disney it’s Walter Elias Disney. This American entrepreneur is someone who has was born December 5, 1901.
People of all ages throughout the years are very familiar with the concept of Disney movies. Some notable classics of Disney are “Beauty and the Beast” which was released in 1991 and “The Little Mermaid” which was released in 1989. Among the children, the Disney princesses left a good impression on them like Cinderella from “Cinderella”, Pocahontas from “Pocahontas”, and Mulan from “Mulan”. However, many believe that Disney movies serve as a good influence to young audiences but people should know that Disney also has its flaws. Disney have showed negative portrayals of Disney princesses in their films especially when it comes to their usual unattainable beauty ideal and portraying their princesses as inferior to men.
Walt Disney has been making girls think that in order to be beautiful you have to be the perfect shape and size. (Shortridge). Some people believe that the Disney Princesses are great role models for children because Mulan teaches us to never give up on the strengths we have just because we are girls, Belle teaches us to never judge a book by its cover, and Pocahontas shows us real princesses are strong leaders. On the other hand, some individuals feel that Disney Princesses are bad role models because of their unrealistic body appearance, telling girls every marriage ends with a happily ever after when you get married at a young age, and saying every girl needs a man in order to be happy. The Little Mermaid which was produced in 1989, was the first Disney movie to challenge the traditional gender roles, for the fact that Ariel wanted to explore, and was more independent and assertive in her desires than the earlier princesses of the 1930’s and 50s films. Also the prince in The Little Mermaid went against traditional gender roles as well, simply because he was more affectionate and loving than his prince counterparts in other Disney films. “Both the male and female roles have changed over time, but overall the male characters evinced less change then the female characters and were more androgynous throughout.” (Descartes & England, pg.566). Disney movies have been for a long time a strong media target for children, and can serve as a way to address stereotypical gender roles (Leaper, 2000).
Blasphemy! How can parents possibly choose to make their children watch Disney movies? Disney movies have been a part of millions of people’s childhood. All the adventurous stories, “innocent roles”, and happy endings may seem harmless, but they are affecting the audience’s mind by sending the wrong message. Disney movies are negative for the viewers, and aren’t beneficial to children because they represent historical inaccuracies, send subliminal messages, and promote sexual activities.
