Tim O’ Shei says that sports could benefit students with grades, homework, and classwork. According to the text, “No Sports Are More Important than Ever”, “When you
Having sports integrated into high schools is important since it allows students to have the ability to gain valuable character traits needed for society with the addition of allowing lower income students to be able to enjoy the sport. Sports, especially team sports, give students the ability to learn valuable traits like “discipline, teamwork, a drive for success, the desire to be held accountable and a willingness to have their performance measured” (Sato). These skills mentioned in the article “The Case for High School Sports” by Kai Sato are vital to be functioning members of society. If students were to only focus on academics their whole life, it will only be beneficial till they exit college, since in someone's everyday life they will not be calculating the area of a circle but they will be communicating with
School administrators have been debating whether to keep, or end after school athletics. Due to sport suspension, more students have successful grades. Therefore, schools should suspend sports in order for students to improve grades, to reduce costs, and adjust American academics. As educators know, students should focus on schoolwork instead of sports to improve their grades. For example, in the fall of 2012, Premont Independent School District had 80 percent of students pass their classes compared to 50 percent the previous semester (Ripley 10).
Also kids try harder in school when there playing a sport because they cant play while they are failing school so they try a lot harder in school. equally important it is good exercise for kids to play
Playing sports in school or other places can benefit us in many different ways. For example, it helps us concentrate in our work. After reading 5 different articles in different points of view, I have learned that sports are beneficial in many ways that we should keep
Schools should not get rid of sports because it improves focus and academics, and teaches you to work with others as a team. Schools shouldn’t get rid of sports, because it improves students focus and academics. This is important because it proves that sports can improve students for school subjects. In the article ”Should schools get rid of sports”, according to a 2013 report from the Institute of Medicine, physically active kids have more focus, are better problem solvers, and score higher on tests. This supports my claim because it helps students improve in many subjects, like it is better to stay focused while doing your homework and the work you do in school.
Lastly, you have to set goals in order to play sports in high school. Most athletes would not try in school if there wasn’t a GPA to go by. They won’t try because they don't have to. When you try you get rewarded, if you don't try you don't get rewarded. Sometimes it takes a lot of work and time to keep the GPA high enough to play, but in the end you get rewarded by being able to play sports in high school.
Some people against that playing sports in school is harmful for students. However, to me, playing high school sports is beneficial for students because it teaches perseverance, prevents overweight's, and build confidence characters. The first advantage of playing high school is teaches students perseverance. In many sports, the winners are not always about the strongest or fastest.
Many people believe that students that are involved in a high school sport affect their grade and test scores. At most high schools in America, sports are very popular and an important role in a student’s school years. High school sports have a positive impact on students and schools everywhere. Students have a better chance in succeeding in school while playing in a high school sport. First, high school sports are positive because it has great impact on both the student’s education and sports participation.
This notion is supported by Dr. Daniel Gould, who believes that “Children who participate in sports have increased educational aspirations, closer ties to school and increased occupational aspirations in youth” (1). People against the funding of high school sports think that parents and society are placing more emphasis than ever before and, “[P]ressures athletic personnel to deviate on winning from the athlete- centered educational and personal development mission” (Gould 1). However, athletes strive to do better in class. Michael Lorenc, a high school basketball coach believes that “those who seem to have an overwhelming schedule where they’re playing maybe multiple sports, and high academic schedules, they tend to do better than those who don’t do anything extracurricularly” (Gray). Balancing sports and school makes athletes put more effort into keeping up grades while playing the sport they love.
First, according to the article, “Are High School Sports Good For Kids?” by Daniel Gould, a study has shown that Michigan students who participate in sports are shown to have increased educational goals and aspirations. This fact is important because it shows that extracurricular sports are doing what they are supposed to do; benefit the education of students, not detract from it.
The stress can get so intense, it feels paralyzing. That’s why it is important than ever for schools to invest in their athletic programs,” states the sports article “Should Schools get rid of Sports.” Schools should keep their sports programs because they help improve academics, help improve mental and emotional health, and improves social skills like being on a team. Schools should not get rid of their sports programs because they help with student’s academics.
Are school sports good for kids? Yes, school sports offer kids tons of good opportunities to get scholarships to a good college, although it is not so easy for some kids to be athletic, but for most people sports can actually keep their grades up. Every year tons of kids are getting scholarships to colleges all around the world. People are getting scholarships from ping pong to pumpkin carving and most likely some other crazy sports. This just goes to show that there is a wide variety of sports that you can get a scholarship from.
Sports can enhance the cooperative and strategic strategies. The passage states that, “understanding the competitive process entails an appreciation of the social nature of competition, particularly with regard to the cooperative and strategic aspects of sports and an awareness of the nature of individual roles within a cooperating group.” The last reason, which it the academic benefits, proves that you shouldn’t take away the sports for school. The kids that play sports benefit in the classroom a lot more than regular students.
From the Friday night lights to the last second goal, school sports are a major part of the high school journey. In fact, according to "Are High School Sports Good For Kids?" by Daniel Gould, Ph.D., over five million students from the United States participate in a school sport. High school sports are a great way for student-athletes to stay healthy, make new friends, and be a part of a team atmosphere. In addition, school sports keep kids off of the streets and lower the athlete's chance of committing a crime. School sports are a tremendous way for student-athletes to create new, meaningful relationships.
