Why Sugary Snacks Need to Go
Many children today are obese and overweight and the reason for this is high calorie sugary snacks. Child obesity has more than tripled since the 1970s. New regulations in many schools have cut sugary snacks out of the snack lines and vending machines to try and stop this problem. According to the US Department of Agriculture any food sold in public schools have to meet calorie, fat, sugar, and sodium limits.(Sheehy) No snacks sold during school hours can exceed 200 calories.some of these regulations are hard to follow and can be expense. As a result some schools have dropped out of the program. But child obesity is a growing problem and changes need to happen to stop it.

Even though sugary snacks are delicious and children love to eat them schools should stop selling them in snak lines and vending machines. Not selling junk food to kids is a great way to get them to eat healthier and maintain a healthy weight. …show more content…

If junk food is no longer sold at school students will eat more healthy snacks to replace them. So if students don't get the energy they need for the day from junk food they will turn to fruits and vegetables for that energy. Another reason that schools should not sell junk food is If students eat more fruits and vegetables in school they will continue eating them at home.
