1. Drawing on your own experience at JFK airport last week, do you think that iPad menus will work well at McDonalds restaurants? Justify your answer
a. Overall, I think it is an appropriate action to take if McDonalds is looking to be a modern restaurant. Being technologically modern is important especially in a quick service environment as consumers are looking for efficiency and a “fast food” service. Specifically, training employees becomes faster and easier, eliminates any miscommunication because all the customer has to do is read and select, and utilizing an application on an iPad provides opportunity for data analysis. However, with iPads deployed at locations in the New York Area, it is important to consider the socioeconomic environment as middle-class and lower-class consumers typically consume fast food more often than upper-class consumers. Also, a community where the McDonald’s location runs risk of theft and robbery, iPad’s are much easier to steal

2. Given your answers to Question 1, can you see exceptions or do you believe your answer applies to all restaurants? What about McDonald’s restaurants in other countries?
a. I believe that it depends on the type of restaurant, the types of consumers they attract, and the environment to which they would like to create. By considering these factors, every restaurant is different, specifically, a complex restaurant which would require assistance of a waiter for selecting a meal would suffer with implementation of an iPad ordering system. McDonald’s restaurants in Europe would benefit from this sort of service because food is more expensive and has smaller portions, and the socioeconomic environments where McDonald’s are located, in my experience, attract consumers which are respectful of the restaurants.
