Why I Volunteer At The Junior Achievement Discovery Center

I volunteered at the Junior Achievement Discovery Center in Atlanta, Ga. I worked with middle schoolers to teach them about adulthood. I was in a group of four teaching and motivating a small group of students to learn about careers and how to plan for expenses. The students took part in an immersive experience where they were given an adult life with a chosen career, family situation, and salary. I had to help guide the students and help them understand how things as an adult work such as applying for health insurance and credit scores. The main objective of my service was to help teach the students what to expect in the future and teach them about different career paths. I taught the students about different career paths by asking about their dream jobs and what they thought that job was about. I then clarified what certain jobs did if they did not know and talked about other jobs not mentioned like business jobs. Beyond just teaching students for a day I got to be part of shaping and motivating a younger generation. Junior Achievement helps motivates young people to dream and gives them resources to learn how to achieve their dreams. This program helps young students become more knowledgeable and prepared for their future. It also helps equip students with knowledge of what opportunities are out there for them. The middle schoolers were eager and motivated to learn and are at an age where they are very impressionable. It is important to me to guide young minds to reach their protentional and show them that they can do anything they set their minds
