I volunteered through an organization called Feeding Many. As a volunteer, we planted community gardens where the food produced is donated for those struggling to afford their daily needs. In preparation for joining the NHS, I was an active member of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) and accrued over 70 hours of volunteer time during my tenure. As a middle school student I volunteered as a leader for WEB (Where Everybody Belongs). WEB is a program that assigns a responsible leader/mentor for a group of incoming sixth graders to help them acclimate to their first year of middle school.
One of the places I frequently volunteer at is called ECHO Thrift. Here, I help sort through donations and keep the store clean. Every sale from ECHO Thrift helps fund their Empower program, which includes job coaching, financial counseling, workshops, and more. Additionally, donated clothes go to ECHO's Outreach Center for individuals or families in need. Whether it's helping teachers set up their classrooms for the new year or influencing community members, I am dedicated to making a positive impact on my community.
Donating your time is just a small way to show that you are concerned, sincere, and that you care. I frequently volunteer with my church; New Destiny International for one of our many outreach programs called “Feed the 5,000”. We provide numerous
The smiles on the children’s faces who attend are extremely rewarding and compel me to continue donating my time. As a result of the hours I have donated, I feel I have fulfilled the service category obligations of National Honor
For example, in middle school, I was a member of NJHS. Through NJHS, I helped out with various different service projects that helped those in need. As well, in the past I have volunteered to help sort books for the Ridge Meadows Library and assist the librarians, spending an hour or two a week at Ridge Meadows after school for a few months. I have also volunteered numerous times at the Ridge Meadows Carnival, demonstrating both service and leadership because I am not only volunteering, but also taking charge of a group of kids at the carnival. I have also helped out both last year and this year by packing lunches for got your backpack, taking time away from my lunch in order to help others.
Every chance I get, I always go back and volunteer as an alumni chaperone for the organization, which allows me to talk to students about my college experience as well as what they can expect as incoming freshmen. Additionally, I volunteer at the St. Vincent De Paul Beans and Bread Center in Baltimore when I am home from school. I believe that it is always important to help those who are less
I love helping those in need and I have volunteered throughout my community. For example, I have helped host parties for young children, cooperated with my fellow students while participating in assisting organize school events, providing services to teachers and faculty, inspiring cheerleaders on our school’s cheer team, and more. I serve my community in many ways that affect me but also other people.
Starting about the third week of the trimester, I have been volunteering at Shamrock Springs Elementary 2-3 days of the school week. I volunteer from 1:15- 3:45 pm for a total of 2.5 hour per visit. I served all of my 40+ hours at the elementary school. When volunteering at the school, I helped in a 2nd grade classroom by mentoring, helping, and playing with the students. I have done a variety of things to serve the students including one on one tutoring, accessing individuals, and reading to the class.
Growing up, I believed that with volunteers, anything was possible. This is why I am motivated to contribute my part to the world by volunteering within my community. There is nothing better than the feeling after lending a hand at the library or helping clean and organize packaged supplies in the local food bank. I have gained insight on how one individual can make a difference within the community by being a part of the Book Buddies program. A group of teenagers, including myself, volunteer to read to children.
Lastly, it is more fun to volunteer with friends and family as well. Going to volunteer with a church group or a school organization creates a bond between members as they help others in their
I'm currently in the Boy Scouts of America and we do a lot of volunteering at all sorts of different places. We do this event every winter called "Coats for Kids", where each kid/aldult get two coats a piece and we help them pick out what best fits their style. Participating in this event helps people all around the community that are in need of a new jacket or coat which there is always a lot of. I also volunteer downtown with The Volunteers of America and we help feed the less fortunate on Wednesdays.
For this service project assignment I was able to help volunteer for my nephew 's soccer league. It’s a small league that is based in Farmersville. As a volunteer I was able to work at their concession stand as well as helping out the teams with items that they needed. I gained a new sense of volunteering because not only do I rarely volunteer I forgot what a good feeling it is at the end of the day to know you 're helping out these kids. I started off by volunteering Sunday mornings since that is when all of the games took place.
In addition to education, the center strived for health and wellness and community engagement. While volunteering, I did not have the opportunity to participate in anything other than interacting with the children during their education sessions. However, while interacting with the children I engaged in conversations that acknowledged me on the extra activities the center offered. Surprisingly, I did not expect the center to offer any such thing as health and wellness or community engagement. This is what exceeded my expectations.
Through the community service at Child Development Center, it makes me a better person. What I learned from this is that everyone needs help, but it is my job to provide the help that they need. I can develop or enhance my skills, especially in the areas of communication, collaboration, and leadership. It helps me building positive self-esteem. I learned that I could do anything, if I put my mind to it.
Volunteering is very important; it is both vital to the people receiving aid as it satisfies their needs, and it is important to those administering aid as it gives them joy and helps them become better people. The reason I volunteered for St. Margaret 's Fair was so I could finally stop sitting around and get to work. When I saw the opportunity to do something important, I grasped at it; I selected the ring toss game was because I felt it would be fun and important. I do believe my job at the St. Margaret 's Fair was very important as it both collected money for those in need and, at the same time, instilled me with a love of volunteering. The purpose of the fair was to collect money for humanitarian efforts in the local area.
