The title of the book reflects the theme of the book. The book focuses on the revolutionaries who played a significant role in the American Revolution. The work brings the combats, the treasons, and the vibrant characters of the individuals that forged the freedom of the United States of America to life. It features revolutionaries such as Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Patrick Henry, and John Adams.
For instance Ungar has this to say about students receiving a liberal arts education, “They come to terms with complexity and diversity, and otherwise devise means to solve problems-rather than just complaining about them. They develop patterns to help them understand how to keep learning for the rest of their days” (232). Although I agree a liberal arts education can accomplish that, a person can also learn that through a job, in Mike Rose’s “Blue Collar Brilliance” he speaks of his mother, who dropped out of school in 7th grade (275). Without having an education Rose’s mother became a waitress, though her job seems simple it is not, she had to assess her duties at the restaurant and determine what order would help her accomplish her tasks in a timely fashion. Rose’s mother also had to deduce the moods and needs of each and every customer, according to Rose “her tip depended on how well she responded to these needs, and so she became adept at reading social cues and managing feelings, both the customers’ and her own” (275).
Music and Art classes have been proven to have had a big effect on students. These classes have brought up grades, attendnce rate and higher SAT scores. These classes have opended up the kids mind and have made them more complex thinkers in other classes with higher level questions,better understadnings and higher attendence rates. Kerry Washigton a well known actress and one out of many celeberties that have helped by adopting these schools and helping to rasie money has said that without classes like this when she was young she would not be who she is today. Washigton said that with these classes she learned how to work with others and was an esstinal part in her education growing up.
I am applying to your Bachelor’s of Fine Arts: Acting for the Theater for the fall of 2017. I am currently in my second year of a Bachelor’s of Arts; majoring in Film Production with a minor in Drama at the University of New Brunswick. I am interested in your program because of its content and location. The content of the program seems to be what I am looking for; I am currently studying Drama at the University of New Brunswick and their program doesn’t offer what I am looking for.
Music and drama can be counted as an elective and gets your the available credits you need to graduate from high school. Taking the electives presented is not to punish students as they would think but to help and prepare them for college when they get out of high school. Electives should be a required task for high school students but not every year. Music, drama, and art classes are
Involvement in the arts reflects well with students in other areas of education. Shirley Brice Heath is a researcher at Stanford University and Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. She has stated that the arts can have a large influence on students. “For example, Brice notes that those students who participate in the arts for at least three hours on three days each week through at least one full year are: 4 times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement, 3 times more likely to be elected to class office within their schools, ...3 times more likely to win an award for school attendance” (Ford, Adam). Arts can promote better attendance, higher scoring, and students running for offices in their schools.
It is important to study something in school that you enjoy but that is also useful in the real world. I have always been asked, “what's your major?”. I would answer art history and always got a response like, “what are you going to do with that?”. Most parents and students don’t feel that there is a good foundation from learning Art History. It is often heard from high school and college students (influenced by their parents) that to succeed you must major in science, technology, engineering, or business.
However, as many schools have experienced, neglecting to provide students with a contextually relevant and interdisciplinary approach to STEM that includes the arts (performing and visual) fails to yield the desired effect on student performance and achievement.
“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women are merely players,” (Shakespeare), meaning the whole world is like a stage show and humans are the actors. The quote proves that life can imitate art even when it’s not recognized, art is everywhere you look, in places you never thought to look. Theater is represented in any imaginable way, so why is it not good enough for a simple required subject in school? Fine arts such as drama, dance, and art programs get cut from high schools due to the expenses that go into them. People say theater is not needed for the future, no help in the “real world”, and it’s not a life skill.
1.2 Statement of Significance Art can do lots of things that can create powerful and great changes in ourselves. Artist is someone that is so hard to read if we fail to understand them to interpret the underlying meaning behind their painting because it is their getaway to express their emotions and desires to the community. To accomplish this, the artists are communicating with the society by delivering their messages through their artworks.
“Arts education is critical for helping students develop creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving abilities” (Chernin). The arts can help people succeed. Art is a way that people can express themselves and share their beliefs. Arts in education can help people focus and attend. Fine arts are important because they make a huge impact on kids education, they make an impact on how people pursue their life careers, and it also helps with stress and anxiety.
