In college departments are required to have a certain amount of students enrolled in one of the departments courses. If a academic department in the school cannot reach a certain amount of students over a certain time the department will have to close. Arts and humanities classes are on the decline due to the number of job opportunities available. However, arts and humanities courses are important to help develop an understanding for literature and art. Many college students are not a fan of taking arts and humanities courses because the courses do not correspond with their major.
They are told ‘“that they can be whatever they want,” but what they choose ends up being the same as their peers “(Deresiewicz 20). Students flock towards the most popular majors, political science, economics, and English when decided on a major. Now why are none of these student’s school teachers, or artists? It is because these students have no idea what they want to do, they just continue jumping through the hoops. They fail to ‘find your [their] passion,’” because the whole school processes do not allow them to (Deresiewicz 11).

Not only is college now completely out of pocket for the students, and high school was free yet required, but now the classes are completely up to choice. If the student does not want to take a history class, there is nothing to stop them from doing what they please. But at the same time high school curriculum can be compared to how majors work in college. They both want to get you somewhere on track. The freedom of choice is still present, but most students will follow a plan.
Also, a bible class should be an elective because forcing a religion on someone does not truly save them. Making it mandatory will introduce them to a Christian faith, however if just some people took the bible class and really cared about it then they would help to share the gospel with other people. Another reason for this is that, offering this class as an elective might increase school morale and attendance because many people skip school every day. According to the United States of America Department of Education, “Over 7 million students missed 15 or more days of school in 2015-16.
Why should students be required to take a music, drama, or an art class. This means if a students does not like one of these classes they will still be required to take it. Students should not be required to take these classes because they might not be like the class, will get bad grades, and be angry that they are forced to take a class they don't like. In order for a student to do well in a class they must be interested and like the class.
Do you want to be required to take an art class? Personally I do not want to be required to take an art class because then I would have limited options for classes, they’re subjective, and it’s not fair. Students should not have to be required to take an art class. Limited options for classes. If I were to be required to take an art class it could mess my schedule up.

Sports can be a very important thing to kids, and be a huge part of their lives. They are enjoyable, can keep kids healthy, and are a good use of your time; however, they can sometimes get in the way of what’s more important, including school. I believe that high school students should be required to have a certain GPA to participate in extracurricular activities because it forces students to be responsible with their time, helps kids focus on their school work, and will result in a better life.

Why are music classes mandatory subjects in schools? They really aren’t as beneficial as people believe they are. Music classes shouldn’t be required because they’re replaceable, unnecessary, and sometimes harmful to students who don’t want to take them. All of these cancel out any “benefits” that mandatory music classes have. Electives are fine, but as mandatory classes, they’re either worthless or harmful.
