Salutations, the reason for my letter is to detail for you why I deserve to be promoted from the Professional Business Communication in the Workplace course. I have made the most out of my time in this class in hopes to better myself as a future businessman. Throughout this letter I will explain very thoroughly what I’ve learned from this course. I will also inform you on how what I’ve learned will benefit me as I further my education at Robert Morris, and eventually translate my studies into the real world. Before entering the Business Communication in the Workplace course I was very unaware and frankly, ignorant to how much a communication course could benefit me en route to my BSBA (Bachelor of Science in Business Administration) with a concentration in Finance. One of the biggest things I learned in this class was how to properly construct a Resume. This a vital part of finding a job and with it being time for me to start vigorously searching for an internship knowing how to properly write a resume is step one. If I have any hope of landing my dream job once I graduate; a financial consultant, one day graduating to become a CFO, I needed more than knowing how to do a resume. In addition to the Resume another application based thing I was introduced to in your class was the Letter of Application. This is something I honestly didn’t even know existed. After learning how to create one, going forward in my job search I will include a Letter of Application along with my resume for every job I apply for. Moving forward I will detail the six learning outcomes of the course from the syllabus as I am exiting the course. The first of the six learning outcomes is reading. As I mentioned in my self-assessment letter in the entrance portfolio SQ3R is something that I have been in frequent contact with in my time taking communication courses. Before this class I considered myself very experienced with SQ3R and a very proficient and active reader. I have also found that I question readings a lot more the more I read and that’s thanks too being more aware of mistakes in writing. As I exit I feel as though I only got stronger in this area. Researching is next on the list of the six learning outcomes. When I entered this course I already considered myself a decent researcher. Of course everyone has room for improvement, so in Business Communication I made it a point to improve my research tactics. One area in researching that I improved immensely was finding more credible sources and really pinpointing my subjects. I use a lot more academic journals and when conducting research, I almost use the RMU Library Database exclusively because they have the most solid sources and information.
