In the next four years of college, I hope to do many activities that will help me grow as a person and as an engineer. In addition to majoring in Engineering and minoring in Spanish, I want to expand my worldview and prepare myself best to serve the world as an engineer. At my time at NC State University, I plan to do this through getting involved, conducting research, and doing a co-op.
I want to be more involved in a couple of ways. First, I hope to get involved by giving back to the community through volunteering. Currently, I am a part of Girls Engineering Change and have volunteered for a workshop. I plan to remain a part of this organization throughout my college career and hope to one day have a leadership position in the organization. I would also like to be able to volunteer by speaking Spanish at medical places, bridging the gap between the two languages and helping other people receive healthcare.

Going to high school in a conservative area of South Carolina, I feel that it is extremely important that LGBT youth are represented and given resources to help with self-doubt and internalized homophobia. I plan to get more involved in GLBTCA here at NC State so that I can give back to the community and give young teens the guidance I wish I could’ve had when growing up.
In addition to getting more involved in the community, I would like to conduct research while at NC State. Throughout high school, I conducted microbiology research on bacteria and developed a passion for lab work. I would like to continue conducting scientific research throughout university. I am currently in contact with a professor from the microbiology department and hope to have a research position in the upcoming Spring Semester.
