It is a great honor to have the chance to apply to be a member of NHS. Although my academic achievements are the reason why I have the opportunity to apply, my demonstration of the pillar of scholarship isn’t the only reason why I would be a good candidate for NHS. Because I exemplify all four pillars of the National Honor Society: scholarship, leadership, character, and service, I believe that I would be a good candidate for NHS. Many activities that I have done in the past, and still do today, have given me opportunities to demonstrate my leadership skills. For example, in eighth grade I was a WEB leader. Outside of school, I am involved in numerous activities, one of these being the St Louis Children’s Choir. As a member of the choir, I am expected to attend multiple weekly rehearsals as well as taking time daily to practice my music. Because I am passionate about singing and music, I manage to take time out of my schedule to practice my music daily, showing my passion and dedication. As well, I am involved in the Eureka Theater Company, which can also be a major time commitment. I also am a member of StuCo and I take all honors classes. Despite all this, I still manage to maintain good grades and stay involved in the activities I love. This is largely because of my character and the passion, determination, and commitment I have towards everything I do. For example, in middle school, I was a member of NJHS. Through NJHS, I helped out with various different service projects that helped those in need. As well, in the past I have volunteered to help sort books for the Ridge Meadows Library and assist the librarians, spending an hour or two a week at Ridge Meadows after school for a few months. I have also volunteered numerous times at the Ridge Meadows Carnival, demonstrating both service and leadership because I am not only volunteering, but also taking charge of a group of kids at the carnival. I have also helped out both last year and this year by packing lunches for got your backpack, taking time away from my lunch in order to help others. I have also volunteered at Light the Night numerous times, and I hope that through NHS I will have access to even more service opportunities and I will discover even more ways to help
