As a domestic student whose only been here for a few months, not knowing anything about Australian history is hard, this mind map consists of my own understanding about the Colonisation of Australia at this point of the unit. It contains the following concepts: Reasons why Australia was colonised, Age of Exploration, Impact of colonisation to the Indigenous people and finally the process of how the culture of Indigenous people was lost.

Why was Australia colonised in the first place? According to (Skwirk,n.d) there are many reasons why other countries would want to colonise another country, mainly because of the land, the more land you colonised, the more powerful you become. The discovery of new land led to excitement of the people to explore more. With new land comes new resources, they can also use that advantage to trade their resources. A major consequence of the Industrial Revolution is the poverty happening in Britain, causing increase in criminal activity and getting arrested, which resulted to overcrowded prisons. According to Australian Government (2016) on January 18 1788, the first fleet of convicts from Britain arrived in Botany Bay, which Joseph Banks had declared suitable for a penal colony.
The Age of Enlightenment is also known as the Age of Reason because it is believed that scholars tried to get rid of the superstitions and ignorance of the world by using reason (AHSChavez, 2011). It also led to the development of Science and Mathematics, new inventions and discoveries were made. Democracy, profound optimism and deism were also introduced during this time.
