The video presentation “Why is it so hard to cure cancer” by TED-Ed explains the uniqueness cancer has when it comes to diseases, and why it requires a different approach than other illnesses. To put it simply, cancer isn’t one specific disease. Instead, it is hundreds of different unique diseases with one defining trait in common, and that is the mutation of genes causing uncontrolled cell division. The human body cannot differentiate cancerous cells from healthy cells. It attacks the body in a way modern science is still very clumsy at treating. However, that does not mean all hope is lost, not at all, far from it. Usually when cells accumulate mutations, the body can detect it. When the body detects a cell mutation, it will either
