Jeremiah and Pope Francis
Jeremiah lived in the southern Kingdom of Judah around 600 BC. In this kingdom they had many problems, they didn’t follow the laws of God, the boasted about riches, they worshipped false gods, they ignored the poor, they didn’t work for peace and justice, and they didn’t keep the covenant. This made God angry. Jeremiah told them that they need to be fair with each other and that they need to return to God. They people ignored him, beat him, and threw him in prison. This didn’t stop him though, he continued preaching about what will happen. He told them that they shall repent or the Temple will be destroyed. Jeremiah compared God to a potter who makes the clay into his liking and if it’s not to his liking he will make a new one, just like if God doesn’t like what he sees he will destroy you and re-form you to his liking.
