Ocean Acidification
What I know, Assume, or Imagine:
Ocean acidification is an up and rising global problem that has the potential to wipe of lives from the face of the earth. Oceans play a critical role to the basic elements of all life needs to survive on. For many years, it has been a steady environment that is rich in life and vitamins, providing life on earth with fresh water, food and jobs. However, since the burning of fossil fuel, more and more emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) has enter and is currently trap in the earth’s atmosphere. The oceans will absorb about a quarter of the CO2 in the atmosphere and this may seem like a benefit as CO2 is being reduced from the air, but as CO2 is …show more content…

Thus, I go online to google and googled “ocean exploration”. After few web pages, I found oceanexplorer.noaa.gov, the article “What is Ocean Exploration and Why is it Important?” caught my attention the most. NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration and Research a federal organization currently dedicated to exploring our unknown ocean. According to the article, “ocean exploration is about making discoveries, searching for things that are unusual and unexpected”. These discoveries require time and discipline to record the observations and documentations, such as “biological, chemical, physical, geological, and archaeological aspects of the ocean”. The information receives helps scientist set up baseline information they need to “better understand environmental change, filling gaps in the unknown to deliver reliable and authoritative science that is foundational to providing foresight about future conditions and informing the decisions we confront every day”. For example, it can help “predict earthquakes and tsunamis”, at the same time “help us understand how we are affecting and being affected by changes in Earth’s climate and atmosphere”. The information obtain is equally important to everyone, as it may also reveal new sources for “medical drugs, food, energy resources, and other products”. All this information will help scientist and government to ensure that ocean resources are well …show more content…

Understanding how ocean research and exploration works, I cannot wait to see how much ocean acidification research is done and how much more I do not understand about it. So I continue to use google and google “ocean acidification” in search of understanding better on the topic. I come across oceana.org. This is an organization
