Why Is Oklahoma City Bombing Important To Our Society

The Oklahoma City bombing took place on April 19, 1995. There were hundreds of victims and hundreds of family and friends of those victims. Even though this event happened nearly 20 years ago, it still reminds me of service, honor, and kindness, the foundation of the American standard. Right after the incident, police rushed to the scene and started to rescue the people that were trapped or injured. Then they retrieved the bodies of those who were not as fortunate. They rushed into a collapsed building to save people, while risking their own lives. While trying to save the innocent lives, they were also trying to catch the terrorists that built and set off the bomb. Service is important to our society because without service, there is no one to defend America, and no one to defend the people. After the bombing, organizations were formed. People came together to help the victims overcome the difficulties they had to face. They consoled the family of those whose family was hurt or killed due to the incident. When I was in middle school, I volunteered for an event for charity. It was to stand in front of a store and get donations for an organization for the bombing. There were many different people that donated, but they all had something in common. They were kind. I remember a few particular people that donated. There was a child who had asked his parents for money, and then dropped it in to the box. There was also a man that took out his wallet, pulled out all the money he had, and put them into the box. Then, there was an old lady that searched through her pockets, finding only some quarters. Kindness is something everyone should have. It doesn’t matter if it’s toward a family member, a friend, or a stranger. Kindness is important to our society, especially as it grows more diverse and complex.
