World War 1 was the first major global conflict, resulting in over 40 million casualties. It started on the 1st of August, 1914 and was expected to go for around 6 months. However the war lasted four years and three months, ending on the 11th of November 1918. The majority of the battle was fought on the western front which was located near the north-east border of France with Germany. During this conflict, the Allied Powers fought against the Central Powers. The Assassination of Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand was the spark that triggered the start of World War 1. This investigation will discuss how technologies affected the way people fought in war, how technologies such as artillery influenced the length of the war, and how tanks changed the war. Technologies changed the way people fought in war drastically. It allowed soldiers to accurately shoot people from kilometres away. This meant that instead of standing face to face with your enemy, looking them in the eye and physically killing them, you could be in a trench kilometres away just firing a gun and never have to see their face.
