Since the American Legion's inception in 1919, the main goal was to serve veterans, active duty servicemen as well as the community they were chartered for. Over a century later, this sentiment still rings true due to the multitude of services and programs they offer. Examples of this include Girls and Boys State, Operation Comfort Warriors, as well as local volunteer opportunities. In addition to a surplus of charter-based initiatives throughout the nation. The team has offered a strong sense of family along with leading me to meet my best friend. Being able to shoot traps is such a freeing experience for a woman because it doesn't matter if you are competing against a man or a woman, it is purely based around your capabilities and talent. Shooting sports have given me the opportunity to break down preconceived notions about the skills of a woman and show that the playing field is level no matter the gender. The most notable change I would recommend to the organization is the lack of publication on a local basis. This is obviously quite difficult to manage from charter to charter and will vary based on the motivation of its workers, but this is a simple solution that could revitalize the organization for younger generations. The enterprise is over a century old and has survived this long, so it is blatantly obvious that the critique is less than necessary.
