Homosexaulity is when a person has a sexual attraction to one's own sex. In Russia they have laws that ban homosexual relationships, which causes problems between society. “Couples of the LGBT community are regarded as outsiders in Russia” (Why russia is hung up on homosexuality). Gays and lesbians are treated differently in russia and less than half the population supports their rights. In the U.S. the LGBT community has laws that allow these homosexual relationships but in Russia that is not the case. There was even a time where if a couple were caught kissing, holding hands, or public behavior then they would be in jail for 15 or more days. Some of Russia’s citizens do not support the LGBT community, some of the population do actually support their rights. On a website article called “Why Russia is hung up on homosexuality” by Matthew Chance, he says “Russian authorities have effectively legalized discrimination against LGBT people and cast them as second class citizens”, this statement means gays are treated differently than straight people, they are considered as 2nd class citizens and straight people are considered as 1st class citizens. Lawmakers in Russia say that you belong in the west if you want to have a same sex marriage, which shows Russia does not support same sex marriage. In Russia the LGBT community is considered as outsiders from what Matthew Chance wrote in his article. In the article “Why Russia is hung up on homosexuality” Matthew Chance says “HRW says the law doesn't actually protect anyone, but does give homophobes a reason to believe LGBT lives matter less to the Russian government”, saying the LGBT community's lives do not matter as much as the straight citizens lives do. President Putin went so far as to making a law saying “the adoption of Russian children by people living in countries that recognize same sex marriage are restricted”, says Katie Reilly in her article “Russia's anti gay laws”. In Russia the acceptance of homosexuality varied by age, 74% of Russians said homosexuality should not be accepted by society while the other 16% said it should, says Katie Reilly. In Katie Reilly's article “Russia's anti gay laws” she said, “39 countries rejected homosexuality, as well as Russia and Muslim nations”, this shows how unimportant these countries think of the LGBT community. Katie also said that younger people from the ages of 18 to 29 were more accepting to homosexuality than people from ages 50 and older. I think all countries need to treat all people the same, it doesn't matter who they are attracted
