Science itself has largely been a topic of controversy for the education system; as they argue what of science to teach, and whether or not it will cause strife with the community. Especially if that conflict happens to be from religious, personal, or cultural differences. At all costs the education system avoids conflict. However, conflict or not, science is the fundamental basis of everything around humanity. From the plastic cups one drinks from, to the cell phone at one’s fingertips. It is the reason we have the technological and medical advances at our benefit today. Carl Sagan in his work “Why We Need to Understand Science” and Lawrence Krauss in “School Boards Want to Teach the Controversy? What Controversy?” both explain the reasoning …show more content…

For Sagan it was science itself and for Krauss it was the religious conflict between religions and evolution for schools. Both authors used their organization and formats to lead the reader through their articles. Sagan with his individual arguments spread out for discussion of why? (Sagan). Then there was Krauss and his short and to the point paragraphs that was easy to follow if the reader could follow along extremely closely. As for the author’s tones they set the mood for each article and helped the reader to understand how the authors felt at the time they wrote these pieces and why they were so passionate about science and its role in children’s education. As for if the articles exemplified their meaning and that their purpose was fulfilled. Without a doubt both articles clearly explain their stand on science in education. Sagan very strongly believes that it belongs in every grade level no matter what subjects are taught as long as it is “real” science and not “pseudoscience” as he has it termed (Sagan). Krauss is in the same boat when it comes to evolution specifically in schools. At the time he wrote the article there was much discussion in Kansas about getting rid of the teacher of evolution and Krauss came out and blew every theory put of the water by staying there was no evidence; even from catholic officials like popes that evolution was wrong and went against the bible. Krauss loudly affirmed that the original argument had no foundation of information. Both articles made it abundantly clear that science belongs in the education of today and tomorrows youth because of the role it already plays in each person’s life. No matter those cultural, religious, and personal differences each individual possesses. Science is all around humanity in everything that is new; from technology to medicine. Without science it would
