The reason we went to war with england was because the king was a tyrant and the way he lead was tyranny. Tyranny is when one person or group has to much power. When the Revolutionary War occurred, that was when America started to try and break away from Britain. With that happening, more action started to escalate - war after war along with acts being put into place, such as the Boston Massacre, Shot heard around the world, Stamp Act and Townshend Acts. The American colonists were justified in waging and breaking away from the British because it was war after war that the colonists weren’t recovering from past wars because so many of their soldiers were dying or wounded. For example, after the Boston Massacre the colonists wanted nothing to do with the British.
The American Revolution began due to the corruption of the British government. The British had a monarchy in which the ruler’s descendants were given power after the ruler’s death. Thomas Paine explains that the British monarchy is not an effective form of government (Document 5). He states that man started out as all equal and that the present distribution of powers is unnatural. Paine calls hereditary succession an abominable practice.
Freedom Even though the colonists did not have a clear understanding of freedom because they were under the rule of a tyrant, the Speech in the Virginia Convention and Crisis #1, written by Patrick Henry and Thomas Paine, both motivated the colonists and congress to aspire and achieve freedom. Thomas Paine and Patrick Henry both used very similar quotes to motivate the colonists into realizing that fighting the British king would grant them freedom at last. No matter how many times the American colonists attempted to resolve things through petitions, remonstrations, and arguments the British were right there, smiling insidiously, but only proved to snare their feet. The colonists were tired of these lies and insults, so this is where Paine and Henry step in.

Taking in what the British has done to the colonists, the revolutionary war leaders wanted a government that will protect the rights of the citizens. According to what the text reveals, it says that “To preserve the delicate balance between liberty and power, the Revolutionary leaders believed that their new governments must protect the rights of individuals and states from being violated”(Page 173). Revolutionary leaders are courageous generals that are willing to give up their lives in battle for a better future of the Americans. From what they have seen throughout their services to their country, they have seen that their government needs to be more protective of the people’s rights. Because of this, the government was able to become more protective of people’s rights.
All through history, wars have dependably been battled about the oppression of rulers, for example, the English common war. When they initially began, American provinces had what's coming to its of wars, for example, the French and Indian War, and the War of 1812. Tom Paine famously said “These are times that try men’s souls.” What revolution means is to over through the previous government and form a new one. This quote motivated the colonists and pushed them towards declaring Independence because some Patriots gave up. The American Revolutionary War has been known to inspire other nations to fight for their independence. This revolution has also given birth to a new nation that was built on a new fundamental system. But what led to a war between the greatest empire and a new imperfect colony were events like: The French and Indian War of 1754, The Sugar Act of 1764, The Stamp Act of 1765, The Boston Massacre of 1770 and a few other occurrences. Due to years of lack of attention and misuse of powerful from England had forced the American colonists to break away from their motherland.
The people of America (colonists) were tired of being controlled by England. They wanted to be free and independent. They believed that they were able to control themselves and be their own country. They wanted England to let go of their control and to view them as independent and their own country.
The British government was not looking for the best of the people. They were only thinking about what they wanted; the government was not interested in what the people wanted so they decided to make decisions on their own, which resulted in changes that form the United States today. The eve of the American Revolution was filled with discontent between the British and the colonists. Extraneous taxes, unfair trade laws and trials left the colonists dissatisfied with British rule. The American Revolution or also known as The War of Independence was brought on by American colonists. The colonists felt the taxations and limitations oppressed onto the Americans by British was worth fighting for their rights. The Americans had George Washington as their general, and Washington had an itch to keep the moral of the colonists alive during the hard times. In the times of The American Revolution, the Second Continental Congress emerged and voted for freedom from Great Britain. Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin came together and formed a document stating the colonists’ intent to gain independence from Great Britain.
