The Korean War started in 1950 and lasted until 1953. There had been competing visions throughout Koreans for the future. The South was anti-communist, while the North was communist. The South declared itself the Republic of Korea in 1948. Soon after the North declared itself the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Border skirmishes were frequent before the war. Then on June 25, 1950 North Korean troops pushed into South Korea, and the Korean War began.
