The Constitution is just as important in the digital world, as it was when it was first drafted over 300 years ago. This is because it is the foundation for the rule of law for the government of the United States of America. The Declaration of Independence may have declared ourselves separate from the rule of England, but it was the Constitution that gave our nation the structure for which our country could be governed. The Constitution’s importance for our nation’s citizens in modern times is that the document lays out how the country will be governed and who has the power to enact and enforce laws. The document also provides us with protection from the very government in which to document was written for. The Constitution is important for computer investigations, because it is necessary to know the rights of citizens throughout our country’s criminal justice process. The Framers did allow for amendments to be added to our Constitution, but they intended the process to be extremely difficult. To amend the Constitution a two-thirds vote by each house of Congress is required. Connecticut was a U.S. Supreme Court case that ruled that the Constitution protected the right to privacy. The Court struck down Connecticut’s "Comstock law" on the basis that it was unconstitutional. The law banned any person from using "any drug, medicinal article or instrument for the purpose of preventing conception."
