Advocacy Statement In my college career transiting into an Early Childhood teacher there is a topic essential for the young boys and girls who are growing up in today’s world that is Social Media. Social Media has its ups and downs. Positives that it helps you to reconnect with old friends you haven’t seen in years or family that lives far. The Negatives of Social Media that are arising cyberbullying and depression in children.

People think it’s cool to talk about people because they get laughs out of people. I disagree that social media should not allow users under the age of 18. Young children should cut down on their social media because bullying has become a huge factor in using too much social media, kids do not socialize as much, and too much social media affects kids learning abilities. Many kids that are between the age 10 - 12 are just not learning as much because they are always on their phone or they are just texting instead of doing their math homework or any homework they were assigned. Also, many kids that are using many social media are not paying attention in class because they were up the whole night texting their friends or they were just posting things and that can lead to bullying. Social media is bad for kids because it lowers their self-esteem and changes their character, alongside that it increases the capability of people being cruel to each other and getting into trouble. You should protect our future by not allowing your child to go on social media until they are of age, responsible, and capable to handle the things on social media. While they are off you should increase your parent-child bond and make them feel happy and appreciated. If you do not regulate your child's time on social media you should talk to them about what not to say on social media and help them set up their privacy setting and accounts to make them safer. You can also set certain rules for Social media just like you do in the real world.

Immature kids can be harassed by the online stranger and it can be dangerous because they never know when they can be found by the stranger. Social media are mostly used by adults and adolecents. However, there are a lot of children that already use social media. Based on the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, children under 13 years are not allowed to use social media for it can give bad impact for the children who actively use it. The first bad impact is the children can easily access to bad and inappropriate contents.
