William Shakespeare is widely considered the greatest writer of the English language, as well as the worlds greatest dramatist. He produced most of his known work between the years of 1589 and 1613.His early plays were primarily comedies, and these are regarded as some of the best work ever produced in these genres. He then wrote mainly tragedies until about 1608, including Hamlet, and Macbeth, which are considered some of the finest works in the English language. Lastly, he wrote tragic comedies. All of his work had a major impact on the exceptions of what could be accomplished through innovation in characterization, plot, language and genre. To this day they still influence new writers far and wide, and Shakespeare remains one of the most quoted writer of the English word. Is this as clear cut as we think though?, many theories have since sprung that William Shakespeare was not an actual writer, but a pen name for one or multiple others who might of wrote the famous plays. Removing the plays, sonnets and works from the equation, there is very little evidence to support the existence of Shakespeare. A handful of signatures have survived the ravages of time. There is also a record of his marriage to Anne Hathaway and a single pair of portraits. Business transactions that have nothing to do with writing and the last will and testament covering three whole pages are all the documents that have survived to the modern day. No records of his education have ever come to light and neither has a draft copy of a manuscript handwritten by Shakespeare been produced to bolster the claim that he is the true author of these works.
