William Shakespeare is one of the most important authors that has ever lived. His works are still studied by students today that want to learn about what it takes to become a master writer. Even though he has been gone over 400 years, his stories and ideas are still relevant to modern day society. No other author has had such a impact on the written word. Shakespeare's influence will continue to last another 400 years.
William Shakespeare's exact birthdate is unknown but records indicate that his baptism was April 26, 1564. He was born to John Shakespeare and Mary Arden. Mary was the daughter of a rich landowner/farmer. His father John was also born into wealth. Due to the fact that Shakespeare lived so long ago, many of the facts about his life are not clear. Most biographers do agree that he attended King's New School in Stratford. It was a free school that was close to his home. In this grammar school Shakespeare probably would have studied, "basic latin text that was standardised by royal decree, and the school would have provided an intensive education in grammar based upon Latin classical authors" (Ackroyd).

Through his experiences at the theatre, records show that some of his first plays were performed on the London stage by the year 1592. Not everyone took a liking to Shakespeare's writing. In fact, Robert Greene has this to say about Shakespeare in print, "...there is an upstart Crow, beautified with our feathers, that with his Tiger's heart wrapped in a Player's hide, supposes he is as well able to bombast out a blank verse as the best of you: and being an absolute Johnannes Factotum, is in his own conceit the only Shake-scene in a country,"
