William Shakespeare was one of the most influential writers of his time. However, he was not just a writer, in his earlier years he also acted and spent time in theatres throughout England. He led a very interesting life with and without his family throughout his career. William Shakespeare’s father John Shakespeare was a glove-maker and tradesman. It is said that he also held quite a few public offices over a twenty-year period. Records show that he was a bailiff, a borough ale taster, and even an alderman. In 1577, when William was thirteen, his father disappeared from pubic record. It is said that he suffered financial loss and could no longer play a role in his local government. She married John at the age of seventeen. She was illiterate, so to sign her name, she drew a running horse. She was the daughter of a well-known landowner in England (Alchin). The family name was given to nearby forest, which Shakespeare used as the setting for As You Like It, the Forest of Arden (Internet Shakespeare). Shakespeare was her third child out of a total of eight children. Joan, Margaret, William, Gilbert, Joan, Anne, Richard, and Edmund were the children’s names (Internet Shakespeare). Joan died when she was eleven years old and Margaret passed away at five months of age, and Anne at age eight. They all died due to the bubonic plague. The five remaining children all survived to adulthood (Alchin). At eighteen Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway. She was the daughter of a local farmer. He begins the play by introducing Romeo of the Montague family and Juliet of the Capulet family. These two are children of feuding families and Shakespeare lets his audience know from the beginning that these two will fall in love but die before the end of the play. Some servants of the two rival families get involved in a street fight, and the Prince of Verona is not happy when he hears about this. Escalus, the Prince decides there will be a death penalty if this feuding between the families continues. Romeo falls in love with Juliet at a party that was supposed to be so Juliet could met and get to know the suitor her father has planned for her, Paris. The two love-struck teens declare their love for one another and make plans to be married. A Capulet attempts to provoke Romeo into fighting so he would be banished from Verona. He was successful in his venture because after Prince Escalus hears about the fight he banishes Romeo from Verona. Juliet drinks a potion that was just supposed to stimulate death. The morning of her wedding her family found her dead in her room. When Romeo hears of this he decides that he will take the poison too. Just after he dies, Juliet wakes up but finds out that her Romeo is gone. She kisses him softly and then stabs herself. It is such a tragic love story, but so many people enjoy the play. The two families end their feud after both of their children are dead
