William Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564, in Stratford-Upon-Avon, England, a rural enclave located approximately seventy kilometers from the city of London. Upon eight days following his birth, he was baptized in a Catholic Church, as his parents were {most likely} devout Catholics. Shakespeare came from a humble background, as his family attempted to get him an education, which at the time, was a commodity provided for the wealthier class. Shakespeare eventually gained access to a local school provided to villagers in his area. It would through a formal education, that Shakespeare would grow an interest in literature and dramatic writing, as he would spend hours reading various concepts. Additionally, he grew an ability to interpret literature in other languages, such as, Koine Greek, which would serve as a large role in his later life.

His plays can be divided into three components: Comedy, History, and Tragedy, which formed a total of approximately thirty-seven plays. Comedies were plays that contained mystical and light-hearted elements of theatre, a known comedy play was A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Histories were plays that explored the previous and current events affecting England as a nation, a known history play was King Richard III. Tragedies were plays that explored the dark-natured side that showed the complexity of the human condition, a known tragedy play was Hamlet. These three components share a similarity, as they were Shakespeare’s way of subconsciously explaining the previous, current, and foretold events in England, and providing a synopsis to society’s perceptions of theatre at the
