After the publication of the plays and sonnets we assume today to have been written by William Shakespeare, there has been much debate over whether or not he is the true author of these works. In the following years, there have been many different people named as potential authors of the writings, such as Queen Elizabeth or Christopher Marlowe. Today, it is mostly accepted by both historians and the general population alike that William Shakespeare was the true author of his own plays and other works. Not surprisingly, many people still continue to argue that there is no real documentation that supports Shakespeare being the real author. Although there is no concrete evidence that William Shakespeare is the true author of his different works, there is no true evidence saying that he was not the author and could not have produced these different writings, as seen in textual evidence of his view of women in the play “Hamlet,” by historical evidence of his ‘lost years,’ and the overall lack of evidence present to prove any other possible figure could have written the works. Surprisingly, many people still try to argue that he was not the actual author, and that he was just an alias for another. Many of his writings were seen as not truly by him because his name was not placed on it until years after his death. Now, we accept that he truly was the author, and that his years were spent writing and working on his acting to be the great playwright we know him to be today, as stated by Sarah Pruitt, a writer for ‘history.com,’ who said, “Most scholars accept that William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, and spent time acting in London before returning to Stratford, where he lived until his death in 1616.” Consequently, it will still be long debated over the true identity of the writings of the name William
