The Cold War was the aftermath of World War II it started in 1945 and ended in 1991. The Cold War started because the Soviet Union’s allies had an ongoing rivalry. This then resulted in Winston S. Churchill getting involved. Winston S. Churchill was prime Minister of England so he then sought a goal to stop the Soviet Union. How Winston S. Churchill successfully help stop the Soviet Union. After Joseph Stalin death in 1953 Churchill finally had a chance of “calming down” the Soviet Union” (Churchill). On July 10, 1948 Winston Churchill sent a letter to President Truman arranging a meeting in which they would discuss their plan to stop Joseph Stalin (Churchill). “In the meeting Winston Churchill proposed an idea which consisted of Winston Churchill and president Truman meeting with Joseph Stalin” (Churchill).
