In an interview, 13 Reasons Why author, Jay Asher says, “even though Hannah admits that the decision to take her Life was entirely on her own, is also important to be aware of how we treat others.” (doc 4) We all have negative affects on each other and we never know how much it can impact someone's life. In the book, Justin would not have made the list of hot or not, Hannah would still be alive, due to the snowball effect.

Tyler Down is in yearbook and has a lot of technology at hand. Hannah has been hearing clicks of someone taking pictures of her outside her window for a while now. Her parents are gone out of town and she is paranoid already. She invites her friend her friend Courtney Crimson over to her house to find the peeping Tom. Courtney is known for her beautiful looks and generous acts. When Courtney and Hannah were in Hannah's room they started to hear the click clicks of the camera. Courtney was rubbing Hannah's back and saying inappropriate things to get the camera to click. Courtney then said, “how many toys you have been here 1...2...3.” Hannah then ran and open the blinds to see Tyler as scared as could be, running away. The next day Courtney told the whole school about Hannah's sex toys, but then faked to be Hannah’s friend. Tyler took away Hannah's sense of security and Courtney used Hannah to make her look better. Bryce and Hannah met up at the end of a party in a hot tub. In the book, Hannah says, “not once had I given in to the reputation set for me. Not once. Even sometimes it was hard. I always said no to these people. Always! Until Bryce” (doc 4). Bryce is the one that let her reptation show. She let her reputation become her when Bryce took advantage of her in the hottub. At this point is Hannah's life she has given up. The snowball effect caught up to her and she took her life the next day.
Although, some may sat Hannah’s suicide was completely her choice and Justin had no part in it, it all leads back to the events that happened in her life. In hannah's life there was a definite snowball due to the event that ruined her reputation. This whole book comes to show how carefully we need to treat others, because we don't know how it is going to affect them. On rumor ruined Hannah's life and led to her suicide.
Due to Justin's actions of spreading a rumor, about another 5 events happened that could have been prevented if Hannah didn't have the reputation of an inappropriate girl, then she would still be an alive ordinary girl. In Jay Asher's authors note, Jay states, “ Even though someone appears to shrug off a sideways comment or to not be affected by a rumor, it's impossible to know everything else going on in that person's life, and how we might be adding to his/her pain. People do have an impact on the lives of others; that's undeniable.” (doc
