This point is important to talk about because prior to World War 2, Filipinos and the United States had a basic colonizer/colonized relationship based on reciprocation after the United States took over the Philippines. There were set responsibilities for both groups. The U.S. wanted to civilize the Filipinos and guard the Philippines from foreign interests, and in return, would allow the Filipinos to work in their fields as agricultural labor.
