The bombing of Japan in World War 2 has had a major impact on economical, social and political impact on Japan. During the second World War in 1945, the United States dropped 2 atomic bombs on the cities, Nagasaki and Hiroshima.These were the first 2 atomic bombs used in warfare as well as the only ones used up until now(The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica). The bombings had devastating consequences, resulting in a large number of deaths, injuries, and destruction, there were also long-term health and environmental impacts on the people living in the cities. The bombs also had military influence on Japan as well as political changes in the country.

The workforce had lost a lot of skilled workers and available workers, this had a major impact on the process of rebuilding the cities. The rebuilding process also had a major impact on the economy as it was costly and time consuming and the loss of infrastructure also meant the production of assets essential for the rebuilding process would have also slowed down the process. Finally trade systems were cut off because of the damage dealt to ports and shipping facilities and this meant that materials and goods could not be accessed from the outside world. Japan received economical help from the US and managed to rebuild lost infrastructure in about half a decade(Hiroshima for Global Peace). The unemployment rate decreased because of this, this helped boost the country's economy. After the war, Japan experienced one of the most economical growths in history. Japan had an average growth of 3.89% in the 1980s, surpassing the US which had a growth of 3.07%(“The Lost Decade: Lessons from Japan’s Real Estate …show more content…

The threat of getting bombed again led the Japanese leaders to make the decision of ending the war. The atomic bomb also had a significant impact on the government system of japan. The emperor who was previously renowned as a deity or a living god to the Japanese was publicly stepped down from his status by a photograph taken on 29th of September 1945 right after the war. This photograph was taken with General MacArthur and the Emperor, the 2 reasons behind the photo was to show the relation of the Japanese and US and the photo was also taken in a way where MacArthur was shown as more powerful and influential(tarres). Japan’s strong beliefs of nationalism and militarism which motivated it to join wars and invade countries like China also dissipated after the bombing. The bombing also changed international relationships in Japan as the US formed allies with Japan and supported the rebuilding process. Views on atomic bombs were also changed all over the world and debates on ethics in the use of atomic bombs led many countries to agree to ban the weapon, “The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear weapons” was made after a conference in 2017 where only one country voted against it while 122 countries were against using nuclear bombs(UNODA), this shows how the view of atomic bombs went from an essential component in warfare to a deadly weapon that is unethical put into use,
