According to the Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica, “Process philosophy is a 20th-century school of Western philosophy that emphasizes the elements of becoming, change, and novelty in experienced reality; it opposes the traditional Western philosophical stress on being, permanence, and uniformity” (Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica, 1999). The purpose of the civil rights movement was based on process philosophy. The belief that all men are equal has had large effects on American society. One example of this is the civil rights movement during the 1950s and 1960s. Through the Marxism period, 1870s to present, Karl Marx believed that man was the ultimate authority and that there was no one above him. Marxists argue that capitalism is a system based on exploiting of the many by the few. Because this system is based on gross inequality, it depends on various tools to divide the majority, racism and all oppressions under capitalism serve this purpose.
