In the category ‘Yogic Visions’, there is a 6 percent higher level of reported instances by the mantra test group than by the silent. Mantras are often used as a tool for ecstatic visions in Indian yoga. The recitation and listening to mantras should have increased visions with the mantra test group. This is seen as the opposite again in (Figure 3) were the silent meditation group reported more visions before the test and at a higher level than the mantra group. Both test groups had similar levels in meditation practices as seen in (Figure 5) under daily and weekly. This seems unusual and unexpected, as the silent meditation group was mostly experienced in meditation and therefore often meditated daily or weekly. Both test groups had reported visions in their earlier meditative experiences. Therefore, it is perhaps significant to see that the mantra meditation test group had a higher reported occurrence of visions than the silent meditation group after the tests, possibly as a result of using the recorded mantras.
In the category ‘Yogic Body’ sensations (Figure 1) is perhaps the strongest results for both test groups, with the mantra test group reporting this effect at a level of 70 percent, that is 11 percent higher than the silent test group. Both groups had a similar amount of participants experienced in meditation, so they both had the equal possibility to report similar yoga related body sensations.
