In this paper I will be comparing and contrasting characters from the short stories “The One Who Watches” and “Ashes.” The two characters I will compare and contrasting are Yolanda from “The One Who Watches” and Ashes from “Ashes.” I will be covering the similarities and differences between Yolanda and Ashes.
Ashes is a very nice girl stuck between drama. Her parents are divorced, her mom does not like when ashes goes to his place, and her dad asks her to steal for her. Stealing in itself his bad, but her dad wants her to steal from her mother(the dad’s ex-wife). Ashes is probably a teenage girl (they don’t say in the story). She is probably 13-15 years old around the same age as Yolanda. Her dad has a lot of money problems/financial problems in his life.
Similarities about Yolanda and Ashes, there are many but here are a few. One obvious one is that they are both girls, and both roughly the same age. One main similarity is there parents are both separated in some way. They both have struggles or a tough decision. …show more content…

Yolanda is a very troubled young girl, she skips school, steals forces people(her friends) to do many things for her. Ashes is a very nice young girl, it does not say in the story but I would assume she doesn’t skip school, steal, pretty much does the exact opposite of Yolanda. Ashes parents are still involved in her life in some way but, in Yolanda’s case it’s just her mom that’s in her life. Ashes’ Mom is the strict the strict one and her dad is paid back, Yolanda’s Mom can’t be that strict judging by Yolanda still skips school and
