52% of teens have said that social media has helped their relationship with friends. A lot of kids are more themselves on the internet than in real life. They express themselves more differently on the internet than they would in the outside world. Teens are usually always acting differently than what they normally would when they are on the internet. We are able to express ourselves better over the internet, than in real life, because we may be under less peer pressure.
The question I would like to ask about the lives and experiences of youth is “How does social media impact Canadian youth’s mental health?”. I believe this is a good question for several reasons. First of all, the question specifies the population I aim to work with. Second, the question is relatively open, which is beneficial since I would ideally be conducting qualitative research through semi-structured interviews. Thus, the broadness of the question will allow me to collect a wider arrange of data than with a more specific question.
According to the Ipsos & Google report (2013), 55% of Baby Boomer social media users follow a group or organizations; 40% post and watch videos; 26% support a cause or movement; 23% join a group that they are interested in. Baby Boomers mostly use Facebook as a tool to contact with their friends, which is the same as other generations (Moran, 2013). Sharing photos and social gaming are also their frequent activities on Facebook. For Baby Boomers, Twitter is often used as a resource for news, health advice and other information (Moran, 2013). Different social media have different focus, so Baby Boomers do very different things on them.
Adults should supervise their kids social media every now and then. Most of the time I see people on their phones probably on social media. Most people, especially teens, are on their phones wherever they go. even very little kids are using technology. Some teens are not interacting with people because their to busy on social media.
One such source is a middle aged wife who says this about her social media habits, “(social media is) a great tool to keep up with people I have strong relationships...and (is) a great way to stay in touch”. She also says that it is the place she found news. It is convenient because everything she wanted to know about the world and the people in it showed up in one place.
