The Atlanta rap scene is known for its impressive quantity of rappers trying to make it big. To really stick out you need to possess a high amount of talent and a personality that sets you apart. Young Thug fits this description of talent and personality and has become one of the fastest and most controversial rising stars coming out of the Atlanta rap scene. His unique style, provocativeness, and unpredictability are what makes him stand out amongst the countless other young Atlanta rappers. He might be the most provocative personality in a genre that has huge personalities. Young Thug’s personal stylist was asked if what she thought about his style made people mad, and she said, “Everything about it, how he speaks, how he paints his nails, people are so mad about it.” When asked if the hate ever gets to Young Thug she responded, “Definitely not. I don’t understand how he’s so above it. Sometimes he’ll do stuff on purpose that he knows will piss people off. If people start talking shit about his nails being red, he’ll put crystals on the nails.” This combative style can be off putting to some, but I find it refreshing. It’s truly remarkable that Thug stays true to who he is with all the hate thrown his way. Not only does he stay true he doubles down on who he is. In photoshoot for complex magazine he shows up wearing a leopard print dress. In the following interview Thug was given an opportunity to double back on the dress and play it off. That is not Thug’s style. He calm, and confidently proclaimed it was a dress. The way he talked about it seemed like for a second it was normal for a grown man to dress like that. Young thug’s actions are constantly pushing on what an artist on the verge of mainstream success can do and still be successful.
