Collin Thornton 11/17/16 Pg. 113 Final Draft Two Personal Accounts of Exploration and Settlements The two selections that give the most complete picture of this historical period are The General History of Virginia and The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano. In the early 1600s, Captain John Smith found himself in a precarious situation, the failing Virginia colony. Likewise, Olaudah Equiano was put in a difficult situation as he faced many atrocities on the slave ship at the hands of the slave traders and owners.
In “The Other Wes Moore” Wes Moore, the author, and Wes Moore, the eventual murderer, make different decisions that ultimately determined their destiny. Wes Moore, the author, made many valuable decisions, of these the most crucial choose that he made was choosing to stay at Valley Forge Military School. For the first few days of Military School Wes wanted nothing to do with it, He hates the idea of being away from everyone he knew, and always being told what to do. He even admits to trying to run away a few times. In spite of this after the first year was said “I’d actually started to enjoy Military School.”
Randall Adams and David Harris were the suspects in the film. The introduces an officer at the scene stopping a car on side of the road. There was also a female officer during the event. While the first officer steps to the side of the driver's window, he is suddenly shot five times and the car drives away. It begins telling us that Adams was picked up and placed into a room, was forced to sign an already made confession.
In the short story “No Face” by Junot Diaz, the main protagonist, No Face, embodies the stereotypical view that we all have of superheroes--people with superpowers out of this world--and nurtures this trait through his own fantasy and uniqueness of his daily life. In the very beginning, No Face “pulls on his mask”, shielding his entire face from view, as he “grinds his fist into his palm.” It’s almost as if he wants to see the world through a different view, rather than an average one.
Gerald Graff’s Hidden Intellectualism and Mark Edmundson’s On the uses of Liberal Education are both well rounded articles. They go into depth about what education means in this time frame. They have strong statements about education and even go off their own life experiences on what education means. While it may seem as though these articles are similar.
Dharun Ravi and Tyler Clementi were both accepted at Rutgers University in New Jersey and became roommates in their first year as a freshman. Two particular articles, “The Justice of Dharun Ravi’s ‘lenient’ 30-day sentence” by Scott Lemieux and “Dharun Ravi is sentenced” by Steven Goldstein, Founder and Chair Emeritus, state their opinions and point of views in light of the sentence that was given to Ravi. Both articles have communicated the positive and negative side concerning which charges would stand in view of the facts. Tyler Clementi was a young gay gentleman who had recently informed his parents of his homosexual status before attending Rutgers; however, his life was short lived by the act of him committing suicide. Dharun Ravi is accused of violating Tyler’s privacy through cyberbullying as well as tampering with evidence.

Some of these people included the Puritans of the Plymouth Colony, who believed that children needed to work to prevent them from being influenced by the devil. All Americans want their future generations to be well educated—at least, all Americans should. When it comes to the topic of education, critics attack it by claiming that there are issues with how our American students are being taught. Some believe that education is too focused in an argumentative culture and that environment narrows our perspective, while some argue that the issue is in the commercialization of our educational system. Collectively, educational value is destroyed. Authors Benjamin Barber, Deborah Tannen, and Gregory Mantsios all agree that our educational system is flawed.

Basic, Boring, and Plain are just three words of how to never describe the thought provoking research book, The Smartest Kids in the World, by the author, Amanda Ripley, who logically argues that education must be reformed. She mainly underscores the need to apply the revolutionizing techniques that she deliberately unveils to the audience with a hurl of statistics and appealing testimonies from foreign exchange students to the very developed nation: The United States. Ripley urges the nation to implement more rigor into students’ coursework, hire highly educated teachers, and hold both teachers and students accountable for results in order to prepare students for the flood of trenches that lay ahead. The author quickly grasps the attention of the reader by presenting three unlikely candidates, Finland, Poland, and South Korea, as her main role models of a good educational system that the modern world should learn from.

Education is paramount to achieving success, and living in the modern world. In my school we take several standardized tests that are supposed to measure how much knowledge I’ve retained throughout the year. These exams have changed the way that children are taught, and have made public schools int a limited learning environment.
Everyone has ineffable difficulties in their mind. When we were children, most children learned the same things at school. But, why are their lives going in different directions? Children grow up in different families that have different family values. Students not only just study in schools, but also they learn
Education is a huge issue that not only affects kids and their parents, but their community as well. Schools teach young kids to become the next generation of engineers, technicians, and political leaders, working towards creating a better future for their country and their community. Teachers have the unique job of creating the future leaders of the world, and preparing them for both college and life beyond, by putting a special push towards math and science, the so-called “foundation” of our society. The hard truth is, no one can be anything they want to be. Some people are simply not cut out to be engineers, doctors, or psychologists.
