Rikki-Tikki-Tavi is a mongoose that is washed out of his hole by a flood and found by an English family. This family takes him in as their own and lets him live with them in their bungalow. He is the good guy or protagonist in the story. This mongoose has the same name as the story written about him by the author, Rudyard Kipling. Throughout this tale Rikki proves himself to be brave, heroic, and quick. First, Rikki shows himself to be brave when he stops Nagaina from fleeing with the last of her eggs to the rat hole where she used to live with Nag. “Rikki-Tikki plunged into the rat hole, his little white teeth were clenched on her tail and he went down with her.’’(27).
