1.1 Explain key aims of education and training in your own specialist area. I work in the independent school, alternative provision sector and my specialist area is behaviour. I work with learners with Social, Emotional, Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties in Key Stage 4 (Yr10 and Yr11). This can include Autism (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and those with mild learning difficulties. The key aims of education and training within my area of specialism strongly revolve around both the independent school standards (Department for Education, 2019) and Ofsted’s inspection framework (Ofsted, 2023). The main qualifications which my school delivers are based around the foundation learning tier, of English, Maths and Science, (Soham Village College, 2024). The key aims of education and training within my area of specialism are that my learners achieve a minimum of Level 1 in English and Maths before leaving us, alongside a Level 1 BTEC Science and two additional Level 1 BTEC qualifications. Schools and colleges have a responsibility to deliver English and Maths to learners up to the age of 19, (Department for Education, 2023). When planning my curriculum, I have to set specific goals within the curriculum plan, which I can use to measure the success of my lesson planning. These goals include, what the impact on my students learning will be and what the intended outcomes of the learning are, for example for my learners to achieve a minimum of Level 1 English (University of Worcester, 2024). Getting feedback from my learners as to what is working well and what could be changed to help them reach their goals helps me when planning and making amendments to my planned
