1.1 Explain the concepts of ‘leadership’ and ‘management’. Leadership is inspiring others and working hard to create vision and achieve things. Leadership is a vision to guide and achieve organizational goals. Leadership focuses on the ongoing motivation, engagement, and productivity of the team. It allows you to influence and monitor others, I do this by having an open-door policy in the workplace. This allows the team to be comfortable to approach me and have a good reputation to allow them to communicate openly. Skills required to be a manager include organisation, planning, problem solving, attention to detail. The skills required to be an effective leader include creativity, being open to change, the ability to inspire others, and innovation. Both roles share skills, especially in adult care. Effective communication is an essential part of the role of transitional leadership, as it is a system of rewards and punishments that complement each other and are essential to achieving positive results. Both roles work closely together to ensure the environment runs successfully; both managers and leaders must make decisions. Both roles must be accountable and take ownership of their responsibilities. Managers skills include planning, organisation, attention to detail, problem solving. Leader skills include innovation, being open to change, creativity and the ability to inspire others. Responsibility and accountability: Both leaders and managers should be responsible for their actions and decisions. One theory that looks at leadership and management is the iceberg model; it can relate to the Edward T. Halls cultural iceberg model. It follows behaviours and external beliefs. Are supported by values, thought patterns, and internal beliefs (unseen below the surface). For an onlooker organization, the iceberg model can apply.
