The role of leadership and management skills in an adult care setting is important in providing high quality care. Effective leaders and managers in adult care settings define the goals to achieve and strategies to follow. They motivate the staff to perform well and achieve the goals. A good Registered Manager needs to be a good leader as well. The manager in the care setting identifies if there are any areas to improve and implements the procedures to correct the areas of improvement by providing adequate support to the staff, training and collecting feedback from the staff, service users and the relevant person. If there are any updates in policies and procedures, the registered manager should inform the staff and the service users. The Registered Manager should gather the feedbacks from the service users, relevant person and the staff and it should be recorded and regularly reviewed. The Registered Manager should maintain effective communication with the staff, service users, relevant persons, health care professionals and the other stakeholders. As a registered manager, I would prefer both formal and informal meetings with the staff and the service users. Both one-on-one and group meetings will be conducted. All the information will be recorded and reviewed on a regular basis. Audits on a regular basis will be conducted. Monthly internal audits by the registered manager and the external audits by the experienced external agency. Excellent managers can identify the challenging situations and implement proper strategies to rectify the situation.
